Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
